0800 Numbers Free For UK Mobiles?

It has been announced that in the UK free calls to 0800 telephone numbers will be extended to anyone using a mobile phones it has been announced by the regulator, Ofcom.

At the moment anyone who phones an 0800 from a UK mobile is liable to be charged at a rate of up to 21p per minute but it is free from a landline.

However Ofcom has said that it wants the 0800 calls to be free from mobiles too as it thinks that he current ruling is unfair. Many customers think that these calls are free for everyone no matter what type of phone they are calling from and many people are shocked when the bill arrives and they find that they have been charged for their call.

This can be very frustrating if you are calling an 0800 number and you have been kept on hold for a long time for example if you are phoning a large company who is dealing with your call.

The new changes would make the 0800 numbers simpler to understand as it would be free for everyone to use.

The final decision about the new rules will take place in the early part of 2013.
